of the R.M.C.:
The R.M.C was established vide notification
No. 19744 Dated.28.5.1959 of the then Development Department of Govt.of
Odisha.
3. Date of Starting:
The Regulated Market Committe started its functioning on 1st
December, 1959.

5. Introduction:
In order to extended the provision of
O.A.P.M. Act 1956 and Rules made there under, the Regulated Market Committee was
established at Kendupatna in the year 1958-59 vide govt. notification No. 19744
dated 28.5.59. The commodity attracted for regulation of buying and selling in the
interest of the primary produces of the area was one of the important cash crop
namely Jute. A good number of traders mainly out siders had their trading premises
of Kendupatna and the mode of transport of the crop for producing areas to the
assembling point (Kendupatna) was then the canal navigation. In course of time and
with improvement of road the partice of navigation is almost absolute. Production
of Jute has also declined some how partly because of shifting of cultivation
and partly for inclemency of weather. Originally the market yard was located on the
back of the canal, which has now been shifted to Cuttack-Kendupatna roadside. The
Market erea extends over the whole of Sadar revenue sub-division of cuttack district
comprising of nos of block i.e
(1) Sadar Block
(2) Tangi Chuodwar
(3) Salipur
(4) Nichintkoili
(5) Niali
(6) Kantapara
(7) Mahanga
For smooth functioning of the scheme, the
following commodities have been declared as notified agricultural commodity vide
govt. notification No.19744(1) Dated 27.5.1959 and subsequently
notification No. 625 Dated
9.1.1966. The
details are as follows:
a) Fiber : Jute, sun hemp
b) Cereral : Paddy,Rice and Wheat
c) Pulses : Mung, Biri, Kulthi and
Chana
d) Oilseeds : Groundnut, Coconut and
Nizer
e) Animal husbandry : Cattle, Sheep,
Goat, Egg and Poultry
f) Fruits: Banana, Mango, Orange, and
Lemon
g) Vegetable : Potato, Onion, Leaf
and Fresh vegetable
h) Fish : Fish and dry fish
i) Condiments and spices : Betel leaves cashew
nuts, Garlic etc. A well-laid-out market yard has been established at Kulia having
specious land measuring A.17,317, which is also the main market yard. The main market yard
was established vide govt. notification No. 9362 dated 15.5.1983. Various infrastructures
like shop-cum-godown, auction platform, sundry shops, shops, cattle shed, watchman shed,
secretary's quarter, tube-well, one dug well, internal road, boundary wall and plantation
of coconut trees have been provided in the main market yard besides administrative
building having sanitary arrangements. Expect use of some godowns on rent basis, no
transaction is made in the main market yard. Besides main market yard, the RMC has
established a sub-market yard at Mahanga where facilities like office-cum-godown, auction
platform, sanitary block, 400 MT N.G. godown have been provided for buying and selling of
agricultural commodities. Besides main market yard of Kendupatna, the market committee has
acquired land about A.500 at Champatipatna near the canal bank. Various infrastructures
like office building, secretary quarter, some godown and platform etc. have been
constructed on the said land. Prior to construction of main market yard of Kulia the
office of the RMC was functioning there. After shifting of the office to the main market
yard at kulia about 13 years ago, the construction provided there and the land itself have
become useless. The market committee has taken over the management of rural hat from
