INTRODUCTION:-

District Sports Officer act as the Nodal Officer of Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, Orissa, Bhubaneswasr the District level and implements the plan and programmed of State Government, Govt. of India, Sports Authority of India, Orissa Council of Sports, Cuttack. State Youth Welfare Board, Orissa, Bhubaneswar. Provided he co-ordinates assists in all other Sports and Youth activities organized at the district level by different agencies.

The District Sports Officer works for promotion of Sports and games in the district by providing infrastructure facilities, Coaching, Talent Scouting and nurturing in Sports persons, Sports Pension, Scholarship of State Govt. and S.A.I Sports awards and grant to small sports Associations, District Athletic Association. He organized the Rural Sports and Women Sports competitions, recommends for sanction of financial assistance from Govt. of Orissa and Govt. of Inidia.

In Youth Services, Applications of individual and organizations are recommended for State and National Youth awards Biju Pattanaik Bravery award. This sanction organizes district level youth festival and sponsor participants for different youth activities and adventures programmed

Sports Hostel:- The Sports Hostel, Cuttack is functioning in its own building inside J.N.Indoor Stadium, campus, At-Killa Fort, P.O.-Buxibazar, Cuttack since, 1984. Where in regular coaching is imparted to the inmates for excluding in the field of Sports. The sanction strength of Sports Hostel , Cuttack is 75 inmates i.e.

Sr. Football (Boys) only 20 Nos. (Age Group 16-20)

Gr. Football (Boys)    - 20 Nos. (age group 12 to 14)

Hockey boys only-   22 Nos. –do-

            Gymnastics (both Boys and Girls)-13 Nos. (age group 8 to 14 years)

The inmates are provided sports kits, free lodging and boarding at the rate of Rs.1200/- per month and are admitted in different schools for their study. The Sports Hostel, Cuttack managed by the Coach In-charge and other coaches are there to impart coaching to the inmates.

(b) Talent Scouting :- Boys and girls are spotted from the grassroots level by conducting series of test and those finally selected are admitted in different sports hostels in the state in different disciplines.

© District Coaching Centre :- The Coachers, posted in the district in different disciplines, impart regular coaching to the trainees.

(d) Rural Sports Tournament :- Boys and girls below 16 years of rural areas only participate in rural Sports tournament at the Block, District and State Level. The selected participant participate in the All India Rural Sports Tournament. The rural Sports is organized in two groups in the discipline as mentioned below :-

(6) DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES :-

Construction of Stadium :- Financial assistance is provided by both State and Central Govt. for construction of district level stadium, sub-divisional level stadium and utility stadium at important growth centers and also construction of indoor-cum- gymnasium hall.

(b) Development of play Field:- This scheme provide financial assistance up to Rs.3,00,000/- for development of play field in the schools. This is financed by both Govt. of India and State Govt.

© Grant to Rural schools for purchase of equipments and developments of play fields:- A total amount up to Rs.1,50,000/- is sanctioned by Govt. of India for the purpose.

7.PERFORMANCE REPORT / ACHIEVEMENT :-

1.Sri Jawahar Mishra of Cuttack District stood Ist.in flute in National Youth Festival , 2001-02 held at Hissar (Hariyana).

2. Rural Development of social services of Cuttack District is awarded State Youth Award for best voluntary organization for the year 2000-2001.

3. Miss Sujata Parija of Cuttack district is awarded State Youth Award for creative literature Oriya poetry, 2000-01.

4. Sri Debasish Mishra of Cuttack district is awarded State Youth Award for creative literature eassay.

5. Sri Golakh Samal for Cuttack district is awarded Biju Pattanaik Sports award for life time achievement for the year 2001-2002.

6. Miss Sahebani Oram received Biju Pattanaik Sports award for player of the year 2001-2002.

 

The over all performance of Cuttack district is highly praise worthy as a number of sports talents represent the State in different disciplines and have brought glory for the district and State.
